About

My name is Mikayla! I'm a 22 year old University Graduate with a passion for all things beauty. I stumbled into the online beauty community a year ago and have been obsessed with youtube videos and blogs ever since. After watching hundreds of videos over the past year I figured it was about time I joined the community and posted my own thoughts in my own little space. I'm also recently graduated, unemployed and headed for college in September.

I really enjoy all things beauty, and I really like telling my friends what I think about products so writing them down just felt natural. To me, make up isn't something that you wear to make yourself look prettier, it's something you do on yourself for yourself. It has the power to give you strength to tackle a rough day, the courage to find your inner confidence and sparkle like every girl is meant too.

Other than beauty, I love fashion. Beauty and Fashion are the keys to my heart, along with a great deal. I'm all about a decent deal, and budget shopping is my favourite.

I can't wait to start this journey with the internet and all of you!

Fall Makeup Essentials

Thursday, 17 September 2015

This theme week I've talked about some of my favourite things about fall, my fall fashion inspiration, and the music that I love to drive to during the season (nothing beats Mumford and Sons and driving through the country) but today I am going to share some of my makeup essentials for the upcoming months.

The Morphe Jaclyn Hill Favourites Palette (no longer available as a palette but all individual shadows are available on their website) I love the range of shadows and how the palette works for any season- I recently used the green shade and the coper one above it in the crease and it looked AMAZING. Covergirl Liquiline Blast my favourite pencil liner hands down for the last couple of years, I have 2 backups for this baby. It works wonderfully as a tightliner as well as a regular eyeliner- sharpen it really well and it won't do you wrong. Too Faced Better Than Sex I discovered this last year, and bought a sample size on boxing day last year- I just got around to using it now, and have fallen back in love with it. I love how this looks especially with tightliner for full lashes. Anastasia Brow Wiz in Caramel the one step I do not miss in the morning is filling in my brows, and this has been my go to product for the past 9 months and I don't see it changing anytime soon, well worth the investment, and I even have a couple of friends committed to it as well.

Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer A sample I got in an Ipsy bag when I still had the subscription, and something I've been using religiously to keep the summer dewy look going, in the early stages of fall the glow from summer should still be around a bit and this is a product I always reach for. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 10 Light A serious dupe for the NARS concealer and a fraction of the price, the coverage this stuff gives is amazing, and I'm almost out- I will be repurchasing this! ELF Mellow Mauve Blush while deeper shades of blush start coming into trend, this is the perfect transition colour, a really pretty understated mauve that doesn't come off as too strong and blends really well. Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray The trick to keeping everything in place all day. I use this after I apply primer and once my face is all done to really maximize the effect.

Maybelline Faint For Fuchsia Matte I bought this as an impulse, and didn't really use it during the summer months, but it's a great colour for this time of year, when you want to stretch out summer a little longer but also want to play with a bold colour. Paired with a neutral eye and some bold lashes this would look incredible with the outfit ideas in Tuesday's post. Revlon Kate Moss 08 A warm brown neutral shade perfect for blondes that isn't too crazy a colour with some really pretty shimmer. I'm always drawn to these types of colours (so I have waaay too many of the same type). Revlon Super Lustrous Matte 006 Really Red my first really red lipstick and my favourite, I love how it is matte and a true red colour, I imagine it with a top knot and an infinity scarf with a chunky sweater and ripped jeans.

What are some of your favourite makeup essentials for fall? Let me know in the comments below!

May 2015 Favourites!

Friday, 29 May 2015

It's that time again, favourites time! I love reading and watching monthly favourites posts/videos.

Beauty Favourites

For beauty this month I haven't really been wearing a lot of makeup, which makes my list a lot more streamlined into products that when I have been wearing makeup I have been going to time and time again. Morphe Brushes Jaclyn Hill Favourites Palette I ordered this in the middle of April, and finally received it in the middle of May. The quality is amazing, pigmentation is insane, and the colours all really work well together, I have posted a full review you can check out hereE.L.F Contouring Blush and Bronzer Duo in Blushed/Bronzed I found this while going through my collection, to me it looks to be a pretty convincing dupe for the NARS Laguna Bronzer and Orgasm Blush duo. For a product that is only a couple of dollars it is worth the money. Urban Decay Naked Lipgloss in Sesso My go to lipgloss from the Naked on the Run palette. It is the perfect shade for a natural look but isn't too light or too sticky, this guy makes me want to buy the other ones from the collection, I posted a full review of the Naked on the Run palette here.

Sonia Kashuk Eyes on Neutral- 02 Palette an absolutely amazing matte neutral palette that I picked up when Target was closing in Canada I am still mourning the loss that I believe was only a dollar. I'm loving this palette. E.L.F Eyeliner and Shadow Stick Duo a cream eye pencil on one side and a eyeliner on the other side, I really like the liner side as it is a soft brown that is a lot softer than black for me personally. Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Wild Watermelon featured in my 6 shades for Spring and Summer post (check it out here) I got this last summer and absolutely loved it, and the love has carried over this year as well. Rimmel Colour Rush in 120 All You Need is Pink this goes on a little sheer and the colour really builds after a couple of minutes on the lips, which I need to remember when I put this on. I love the slightly light red, pinkish tone to the colour and I'm really liking this range as a whole.

Last but not least, NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Struddle A blue toned baby pink that isn't too pale but isn't too bold either. I featured this in my 6 shades for Spring and Summer post as well.

Others

For more random favourites this month, I've finished Friends on Netflix (which was heartbreaking and makes me want to start it all over again) Hands up if you want a Chandler...just me? I've also gotten into wearing a watch and bracelet every day, and have been in complete love with Connor Franta's A Work in Progress I posted a full review which you can check out here. I have also been drinking a lot of water and Iced Tea (that I make with real tea and no sugar!) that has gotten me through a couple of heat waves in the last couple of weeks!

What have you been loving for the month of May!? I can't believe it's almost June!

The Jaclyn Hill Favourites Palette

Wednesday, 20 May 2015

I've been watching Jaclyn Hill on youtube for a while (if you haven't seen any of her videos you can find her here) and she is one of those youtubers that is incredibly honest about her opinions and is very funny at the same time. After watching her for a while I've really learned to trust her opinion when it comes to amazing products. The first time she mentioned Morphe Brushes and their unheard of buttery smooth insanely pigmented shadows for just $2 (USD) each, I checked out their website, saw what I liked but didn't buy anything.. small thank god in that statement because before long she had teamed up with them to release a limited edition palette filled with her favourite shades from their collection.

The first release of the palette sold out in hours and crashed their website, so they decided to release it again, and once the stock was out it was finished obviously it was successful. The second time it released was around my birthday, so I used some of my birthday money and bought it for myself thanks GMA! and waited patiently for it to arrive, almost a month later it finally got here!

First things first, Jaclyn's claims that these are insanely pigmented and buttery are 100% truth. I've used ELF eyeshadows a lot in the past, and for their bargain price they are quite good, but these I would NEVER believe they are just $2 per eyeshadow regularly (in the palette they are about 1.50 each Canadian).

I'm a big lover of the Urban Decay Naked Palettes and the LORAC pro palette and these colours in terms of pigmentation and creaminess are pretty much comparable.
Row 1 (first shade is slightly cut off)
Row 2
Row 3
Row 4
I've been playing around with this palette for about a week and a half now, and when I wear makeup I've been on this not really into doing my makeup kick lately this is the palette I reach for.

I cannot get over the quality of these shadows, and will definitely be looking into more as I use up some of the makeup I already have.

Have you tried any of Morphe's products? What do you think?
