About
My name is Mikayla! I'm a 22 year old University Graduate with a passion for all things beauty. I stumbled into the online beauty community a year ago and have been obsessed with youtube videos and blogs ever since. After watching hundreds of videos over the past year I figured it was about time I joined the community and posted my own thoughts in my own little space. I'm also recently graduated, unemployed and headed for college in September.
I really enjoy all things beauty, and I really like telling my friends what I think about products so writing them down just felt natural. To me, make up isn't something that you wear to make yourself look prettier, it's something you do on yourself for yourself. It has the power to give you strength to tackle a rough day, the courage to find your inner confidence and sparkle like every girl is meant too.
Other than beauty, I love fashion. Beauty and Fashion are the keys to my heart, along with a great deal. I'm all about a decent deal, and budget shopping is my favourite.
I can't wait to start this journey with the internet and all of you!

I love travelling, my family is a very adventurous family, we like to go new places and explore. As I'm in my last year of post-secondary education and still young with nothing to tie me down my list of places I want to go is continuously growing. I fully plan on going somewhere new every year.. and travelling Canada, you have to travel Canada.
1. What is your most treasured passport stamp?
My most treasured passport stamp is from the Chunnel, or Heathrow. I am completely infatuated with England, so when I travelled there in grade 11 I was so excited to get both a stamp when we arrived at Heathrow and when we left to go to Paris via the Chunnel. It's a train!!
2. Can you recite your passport number from memory?
I cannot.. Numbers take a while to stick in my memory and I've never had to recall it before..
3. Preferred method of travel? Planes, Trains or Automobiles?
Anything that gets me there. I do fly a lot, and I really enjoy take offs and landings, but trains are fun to see the outside, and cars are fun to relax in the back seat of. I think planes wins this one.. but it stems from my years of growing up on an Air Force base.
4. Top 3 Travel Items?
Camera, Guide book, cross body bag.
5. Hostel or Hotel?
Hotel preferably but I've never stayed in a Hostel.
6. Are you a repeat visitor or do you explore new places?
I like to go to new places, or see new things, but going somewhere familiar and seeing how it changes is fun too. Going to a repeat place with new people, or to finish the bucket list of things I wanted to do.
7. Do you read up on your destination (history, culture, safety) or do you wing it?
I usually look for things to do, or ask the locals of the fun things to do wherever I am. We go places we want to go to, and usually know a little about what we are heading into when we decide to go.
8. Favourite Travel Website?
Tripadvisor. It provides hotels, travel and things to do all in one.
9. Where would you recommend a friend to visit? City and Why?
London, because I'm a London lover, or maybe Paris, or Portland Oregon.. Gah I don't know.. it would depend on the person I was talking too. London because the language is the same, the building are old, and the history is rich. Paris because it's beautiful, it's the city of love and all that jazz.. Portland because it's so hipster and unique and weird.
10. You're leaving tomorrow, money is no option, where are you going?
London, Rome, Russia.. I would have a very hard time deciding this one, I wouldn't be able to decide.. I have a hard enough time deciding what to wear- let alone a no-budget vacation.. I think London..

My cousin (she is 6) came down to visit over Thanksgiving, and my sister and I decided we were going to take her for a pedicure to have a girls day- this also involved McDonald's. She has had pedicures before, and likes getting her toe nails painted, and so do I so, it was a necessity and a really great treat.

Vanilla is my one true love scent, my go to fragrance and really something that smells good paired with anything. The first vanilla scent I remember ever using was when I was 13 and my aunt brought me back Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar and I've been hooked ever since.
On a recent trip to the mall, I had to go to Bath and Body Works to check out their fall stuff. Candles I'm not allowed to burn, smelly hand soaps, body creams that smell like you bathed in apples you know, the usual stuff. I had no intention of buying things, but they had a cool plink-o game at the front of the store where you could get discounts or free items.. for that day only. So you know, that's a solid reason to seriously look around right?
Moral of the story. I found new things. I'm not sure if it's a seasonal scent, or if it's being tested for the permanent line, but it's new and it smells good. It's called Wild Madagascar Vanilla and it smells like a floral vanilla with a fruity vanilla touch. I hope it stays because it's a unique twist on a regular vanilla line and I really like it. I have a mini body lotion that I keep in my backpack and the shower gel, all in the travel sizes to test them out.Labels: blogtober, wild madagascar vanilla

October is a sacred time for me, it's cold enough to wear boots but there isn't snow on the ground, so the foots can be fashionable. Over the last couple of years I have accumulated a couple pairs of fall boots, I don't know how they wound up in my closet I swear
Last Christmas I went boxing day shopping, and Forever 21 had these boots for a really great deal and I fell in love with them. I love the colour and the suede material, and they are pretty comfortable.
A few years ago I went to Italy with my mom, and I was determined to buy a pair of shoes. I couldn't find any leather shoes that I liked but instead found these rough suede boots. The tie on the side is a nice detail, and the shoes are very structured.
I believe these were a Target buy from a little while ago. These ones are honestly very comfortable, I would be okay walking in these all day. I feel like brown boots just scream fall and I like the buckle details.
These are my not-so-cowboy-cowboy-boots. Little ankle booties with a little chunky heel, and feel like you're walking on clouds. I got these from Giant Tiger a year ago and can't get over how comfortable they are.
My combat boots, probably my most worn boots this season. They are so comfortable and versatile. They add the right amount of edge to any outfit, and really they are just on trend, and it's a trend that I'm really loving.
Stitches is this wonderful store, it has a very special place in my heart. Needless to say over the Labour day weekend they had a fantastic sale, where you could buy something and get another of equal value for a dollar. I bought a sweater for $26 and got these boots for a dollar. They are so comfortable, and really versatile and I'm really glad I bought them. The buckles make noise though, and they sound like the spurs on cowboy boots... that will have to be fixed.
What are some of our favourite fall boots?

Last week I made a post about nail polishes that were being replaced with more seasonally appropriate ones. One of the polishes was the Rimmel 60 Seconds polish in Hot Chili Pepper, when I first bought this colour months ago I thought it was more of a summer polish, a darker orangey-red and great for a little drama on the nails. Since I wasn't exactly ready to make the switch completely to darker nails just yet I decided to put it on just one more time. It's perfect for fall too guys I tell you! I have to say that since I put this on a couple days ago (in every effort to hold onto that feeling of not quite summer, but not really fall) I noticed that it is actually a really unique shade to head into fall with. When I look at this colour it's almost like I took the colour of the leaves and put it on my nails, it has that burnt orange undertone without being too overpowering and has a perfect amount of red in it.
Needless to say this one surprised me, and I think I'm recanting my "it's heading into my tub of nail polishes that I won't use until next summer" idea and keeping it with my fall polishes.
The quality of the polish is good for a drugstore polish, but it's not Essie by any means. It requires a second coat to get the right amount of boldness, but it dries really quick, and lasts about a week. I put this on on Saturday and by Friday it was chipping.Labels: blogtober, rimmel 60 seconds
Last year this tag was going around youtube, and I watched it on Ingrid Neilsen's missglamorazzi channel which you can watch
here and I remember loving it so I figured I would do the tag.
Questions:
1. Favourite candle scent?
My favourite is Bath and Body Works Sweater Weather candle, or Leaves. Either of those and I'm a happy girl.
2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?
Hot Chocolate and Tea. My favourite combination is a Hot Chocolate with a Peppermint Tea Bag.
3. What's the best fall memory you have?
I have a couple really great fall memories. Raking up all the leaves in our backyard only to jump into them with a good friend and the dog. Or the time we were going to the pumpkin patch/corn maze and we got a flat tire and spent the afternoon in Walmart while they replaced the tire. Both times were with the same friend too haha
4. Which makeup trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged eyeliner?
I love the look of winged eyeliner, I just cannot do it on myself. I do like bold lips for me though!
5. Best fragrance for fall?
Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar, or their new scent Wild Madagascar Vanilla.
6. Favourite Thanksgiving food?

Autumn is a short lived love of colder weather. The air is really crisp and the leaves change quickly, it's a bittersweet season because it's short lived and results in months of snow and minus 20 degrees.

A chunky knit cardigan, A shrug, or an over-sized cardigan I just bought

Rimmel 60 Seconds Hot Chili Pepper, Mistress by Ciate

Not to me, I don't really like pumpkin spice things...

15. What song really gets you into the fall spirit?
Anything by Mumford& Sons. They just go together. Ed Sheeran, or Said the Whale.

What are some of your favourite things about fall?
Labels: blogtober, i love fall
October means the official start of fall, even if the official start is September 21. It just feels like fall, and to be fall really is the time for bold dark lips, dark nail polish and lots of layers.
Recently, I received this lipstick in my
September Ipsy glam bag, and while I am not usually a dark lip, or even a bold lip type of person, but I am intrigued by the colour.
It's a deep red matte lipstick, and usually I tend to steer very far away from darks like this. However I really like this one. I've worn it sheered out a couple times, by just using my finger and creating more of a stain, but I also really like it as just a lipstick.
It is really moisturizing and not dehydrating on the lips, and it has good staying power. I have to say that Ipsy really picked a great product with this one, and I will for sure by more of the Hikari liptsicks as they are very affordable (this one is valued at just $13).
What lipsticks are you loving for fall?

In Canada fall is a sacred time, not only are the trees turning a million different shades of orange and red, but it starts to cool down, but it's a nice cool down before all the snow comes I live in the Snow Belt... which means that this is truly the time for fall fashion before you have to wear a parka over everything!
Fall is also the time of moving towards layers, and boots that don't need to be water proof. I told you this is sacred times
I got these combat boots for Christmas (and couldn't wear them until May!) from Payless Shoe Stores and I believe they were under $40. While they were available last year, they no longer carry the exact same ones.. however these are pretty close.
I like combat boots because they make any outfit look a little edgier, and are casual at the same time. They almost give the impression of a well paired outfit without trying to hard. Personally I like to wear my boots with the laces tucked inside and a more open look to them, but you can wear them laced all the way up or with the laces wrapped around the boots. Below I've styled my favourite look for my combat boots. A chunky sweater, jeggings and my boots!

As the seasons change, so do the colours. In fall, everything gets darker, the days shorter, the lips and nails bolder. I figured as a great way to transition from summer to fall, I would do an out with the old and in with the new for nailpolish.
For summer, I stuck with the same couple colours, bright pinks and oranges and mint.

I can already tell that these are going to be the colours I reach for during the fall and winter seasons. What nail polishes are you eyeing for fall and winter?

For my first official post of Blogtober I'm doing my September Favourites. September was a busy month for me, trying to figure out a system for school and settling in to school, so a lot of my favourites are really convenient.
My first favourite is a recent purchase, it's the
Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara I hauled it
here I really like how it gets all the lashes and really makes them stand out without getting any under my eyes. This is really great too to darken the base of the top lashes!
My next favourite is the
Bite Beauty Dual Luminous Creme Lipstick in Lychee (the lighter pink shade) and Musk (the darker shade). I've been layering these colours, wearing them individually, and relying on it a lot recently.
My third favourite is the
Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Barcelona Nights. While this product is being reviewed as pretty touch and go, I love it. It's moisturizing, and more of a really pigmented lip gloss, but I love it none the less, and use it all the time! I think it's a great starter for bolder colours in the fall.
Reds seem to be a trend among my favourites, my fourth favourite is the
Ciate Nail Polish in Mistress. I got this as part of a set and hauled it
here. I really like how it's a bright vibrant red and a great transitional colour as the seasons were really changing.
My skin has been freaking out lately
it's all those delayed teenage issues I swear so on the recommendation of one of my friends I picked this up it's the
Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment , and have been using it almost daily as a spot treatment on the colony that seems to have landed on my chin.
My makeup has been really simple recently something about waking up at 6 most days and I've been reaching for my Meet Matte palette (this one is no longer on thebalm.com's website :'(,) but the matte colours of this palette have been fantastic.
My final favourite is the
Lorac Pro Palette, I picked this up while on family vacation in Portland and I have loved every moment I have spent with this beauty. The colours are just so insanely pigmented and buttery and they blend so well, I can see what all the hype is about this one that's for sure.
These are the products I've been loving for September, what are some of your favourites for September? Be sure to check back tomorrow for day 2 of Blogtober!
:)

As I'm new to the whole blogging game, I was super excited to discover Blogtober is a thing. I love fall, I'm going to be a totally basic girl here but fall is my favourite season- I literally live for fall, the colours, the smell, the atmosphere, CRUNCHY LEAVES all things fall.
Fall is also a really great month for growth and renewal, in my opinion anyways, I kind of think of fall as a time to let go of the past and look forward to new beginnings.
So this month I will be posting a new beauty/fashion or anything else kind of post every day for the month of October! This project will replace October's theme week! My favourite fall items, outfits, makeup products, Thanksgiving (in Canada Thanksgiving is in October) and more so stay tuned!
:)
