About

My name is Mikayla! I'm a 22 year old University Graduate with a passion for all things beauty. I stumbled into the online beauty community a year ago and have been obsessed with youtube videos and blogs ever since. After watching hundreds of videos over the past year I figured it was about time I joined the community and posted my own thoughts in my own little space. I'm also recently graduated, unemployed and headed for college in September.

I really enjoy all things beauty, and I really like telling my friends what I think about products so writing them down just felt natural. To me, make up isn't something that you wear to make yourself look prettier, it's something you do on yourself for yourself. It has the power to give you strength to tackle a rough day, the courage to find your inner confidence and sparkle like every girl is meant too.

Other than beauty, I love fashion. Beauty and Fashion are the keys to my heart, along with a great deal. I'm all about a decent deal, and budget shopping is my favourite.

I can't wait to start this journey with the internet and all of you!

Neostrata SkinCare Review

Sunday, 30 November 2014

Last month I was lucky enough to attend the Neostrata event at World Fashion Week in Toronto read more here and they were generous enough to gift me a range of skincare products tailored to my skin specifically.

The Micellar Cleanser is a gentle cleanser that doesn't disrupt the skins moisture barrier, it removes face and eye makeup with the smallest effort (seriously- one swipe with a cotton round and you're good to go!) It retails for $21.00

The Glycolic Renewal cream has 5% Glycolic Acid which is a small amount, to effectively exfoliate dead skin cells away without being harsh on the rest of the face, it encourages renewal of skin cells. I find that it does keep my skin soft. This retails for $39.00

The Aqua Youth Filling Anti-Wrinkle Cream is my second favourite item, firstly the colour is actually this blue colour, which is cool, but it is really moisturizing, I find the mornings where I use this my skin is baby-bottom soft all day. This retails for $34.00

Moisture Infusion 24HR Hydrating Serum, this stuff packs a punch, a couple pea size pumps does the entire face, I find that this stuff, even on it's own really hydrates, and not one of those I can feel it 20 minutes later feelings, I find that my face still feels soft hours after applying this. I really do enjoy it, and it's light enough that you can wear it year round, but works hard enough that you don't really notice it. This retails for $37.75

AquaYouth Filling Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream this is formulated the same as the face cream, it's really makes the eye area notably softer, I like this guy, you need the smallest amount to do both eyes and it makes the area feel softer. This retails for $34.00

Overall I enjoy the line, the price is a little too out there for me currently, being a student I don't have a lot of disposable income to throw around on high end facial cleansers and such. My favourite item from the gifts they gave me is the Micellar Cleanser- I had never used something like this before, and I like it, it's perfect for travelling because you don't need to rinse it off and the tiniest amount is enough to get everything off your face. I can't get over what the cotton round looks like after I use this, this is truly what I would spend the money on.

Mastercard World Fashion Week

Tuesday, 11 November 2014

Last month Neostrata was the official skincare sponsor of Mastercard World Fashion Week. As a member of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers Network I was invited to attend an event hosted by Neostrata to learn about some of their new innovations in skincare. Since I had never been to an event like this before I was really excited and absolutely terrified but it was an opportunity I couldn't turn down (especially since I was going to be in Toronto visiting a friend anyways!)

At this event, we were able to hear from Patricia Clare who is a leading Skincare Specialist and the National Training Manager for the brand. It was really interested to learn about some of the new products and advances they have developed when it comes to the treatment and prevention of the appearance of aging skin. It was also neat to see first hand the way the products are marketed to other bloggers and really feel like a part of the experience.

Little side story: My sister loved to tell me when I turned 21 that my skin was starting to lose it's elasticity and that I was going to get wrinkles, anti aging products have been my bestie ever since.

Patricia mentioned that the Glycolic Renewal Smoothing Cream is a discriminatory exfoliant, meaning that it only removes the dead skin from the face. This product is good for all ages, normal to dry skin and dull skin as well. The concentration of 5% glycolic acid is good for sensitive skin, and especially those who are first time users of the product.

This is the product my sister told me I needed when I turned the ripe old age of 21. It works to promote skin elasticity, reduce the appearance of redness and wrinkles, and is good for all skin types. It is targeted for women over the age of 40, so it's not yet in my market.

Working to reduce puffiness, firm the skin and moisturize the sensitive eye area, this firming eye cream is again targeted for women over the age of 40.

Formulated with 35% active and innovative ingredients, the regenerating serum uses technology originally used to treat scars, the serum is hard-working enough to be used on the neck and chest, it fights the multiple signs of aging and is good for all skin types- targeted for women 45 and over. It reduces the look of wrinkles by up to 69%, increases hydration by 72% and enhances elasticity by 60%

The anti-dark circle complex is for all ages, and all skin types. It claims to reduce the look of dark circles by 22% after only 15 minutes and can visibly reduce the look of dark circles by 59% in just 5 weeks.

This is set to come out in 2015, marketed for women over the age of 45, it is designed to work with the serum to create a new way to battle wrinkles. Patricia said that this product specifically is the richest/ more luxurious line in NeoStrata without being too heavy.

Here is just a preview of some of the new products NeoStrata is coming out with! The brand is perfect for the everyday women, especially women in Canada where the wind is mean to your face. You need only a little and it does go a long way- which can justify the prices.

They were so amazing, they were generous enough to give me a personalized skin care routine for myself (I will be reviewing this soon!) and even gave my friend who came along with me a generic goodie bag for herself.
