About

My name is Mikayla! I'm a 22 year old University Graduate with a passion for all things beauty. I stumbled into the online beauty community a year ago and have been obsessed with youtube videos and blogs ever since. After watching hundreds of videos over the past year I figured it was about time I joined the community and posted my own thoughts in my own little space. I'm also recently graduated, unemployed and headed for college in September.

I really enjoy all things beauty, and I really like telling my friends what I think about products so writing them down just felt natural. To me, make up isn't something that you wear to make yourself look prettier, it's something you do on yourself for yourself. It has the power to give you strength to tackle a rough day, the courage to find your inner confidence and sparkle like every girl is meant too.

Other than beauty, I love fashion. Beauty and Fashion are the keys to my heart, along with a great deal. I'm all about a decent deal, and budget shopping is my favourite.

I can't wait to start this journey with the internet and all of you!

My "Everything I Need" Bag

Saturday, 21 March 2015

I adopted this habit while I was in University when I was rotating between my school bag, work bag and purse and needed my necessities. I've carried this on to my current schooling life, and plan on keeping it going even when I am not in school, to transfer between purses etc.

Blistex Lip Medex This isn't my favourite lip balm simply because it's in a pot, but it makes it easy to have with me especially because the winding down of winter is really drying my lips out. This stuff is kind of greasy in my opinion, which is another reason it's not my absolute favourite, but it does it's job well enough.

Granola Bar I don't get hungry, I get hangry. Keeping a granola bar on me is great especially if I am running late and forget to bring a lunch, or need a snack during my only class on certain days. It's always better to be prepared, which is especially true in the winter, when road blocks and blizzards could keep you on the road longer than expected.

Arbonne Vanilla Shea Butter Hand Cream This stuff smells amazing, and feels amazing. It is a sample size that I received as a gift which makes it the ideal hand cream to keep in my bag. I stick with more neutral scents in my essentials bag just because it goes with every season (unlike my Bath and Body Works Winter Candy Apple hand cream).

Hair Tie and Bobby Pin Long, thick, curly hair. I feel like this is enough of a justification, my hair is unruly 98% of the time, and when I get sick of it it's nice to throw it up. When my hair does co-operate I usually have a test, and I cannot write tests with my hair down. Also, wind. humidity. ya know? And that one annoying piece of hair you just have to pin down bobby pins=best friend

Arbonne Energy Fizz Tabs in Pomegranate Basically tabs that you can break in half, that are caffeine replacements, which are supposed to give you energy and encourage focus. These ones taste like pomegranate and make your bottle of water a light pink colour, the citrus ones make it a pale yellow and taste better in tea. I like keeping these with me to add something extra to another bottle of water at the end of a long day (I aim to drink 3 bottles of water a day- which can get boring sometimes)

Maybelline Colour Whisper in Rose of Attraction This just happened to be my lip product of the day. I rotate this pretty much daily, but this light rose shade is great year round, and perfect to have "just incase" which pretty much means it never leaves this bag

Do you guys keep an "everything I need" bag? What do you keep in it?

Hand Cream Round Up

Tuesday, 24 February 2015

As we near the end of winter it is a good idea to showcase some of the products that have carried me through the last couple months. The dry cold air in Ontario is tough on your skin, it can cause your hands (and especially your lips) to dry out and crack. Wearing mittens to protect your hands doesn't really do anything for the dryness, so they don't really help except to keep you warm- which is the most important

I keep Soap and Glory Hand Food on my end table and use it morning and night to moisturize my hands. This stuff is amazing, I love that it isn't greasy but that you still feel the effects afterwards. It is made with Shea Butter, macadamia oil and marshmallow. I like this lotion so much that I even use it on my feet when they are dry before I go to bed, instead of buying the foot lotion by the same brand. Soap and Glory is really difficult to find in Canada- at least in my area, but I am going to have to hunt this down when I get close to running out.

Bath and Body Works Winter Candy Apple stays on my desk because the bottle is slightly smaller. This is my favourite scent that Bath and Body Works releases around Christmas time, and is currently the lotion I use when I get out of the shower, so having the matching hand lotion keeps the scent going for a little bit. This is made with Shea butter and vitamin E and is very moisturizing. It also doesn't leave that pesky greasy feeling on my hands, so it is easy to apply and then get right back to doing my homework.

Arbonne Shea Butter this guy rotates between my school bag and my purse. I was given this by a friend as a gift, and I love it. Like the other two lotions it doesn't leave a greasy film behind, but really moisturizes. The scent of this one is vanilla- which is my favourite scent of all time, bonus and it just genuinely rocks as a product.

What products have you guys been using to help your hands in the winter? Let me know in the comments below!

Drinking More Water!

Wednesday, 11 February 2015

For one of my New Years Goals, I wanted to drink more water. In the past I have never been a drinker, like a frequent water consuming individual. I remember my mom and all my family members telling me that if I drank more water, I would feel better, my skin would be nicer and I would be less hungry.

I can honestly say that since January my water intake has probably tripled from my previous habits, and I do feel a lot better, and my skin has been nicer, softer and less grey looking. However, one of the reasons why I never really liked drinking a lot of water is because it's well, bland. There is no taste and that is annoying, but I also don't like Crystal Light because there isn't enough flavour, it's either juice or water for me, nothing in between. This is slowly changing

Here are my tips for drinking more water:

Make a competition out of it my sister and I have the same cups and we challenge each other call it sibling rivalry to see who can drink the most water, I usually have between 3 and 4 of these a day, and we tally it up at dinner every night. Tapping into our competitive natures has really helped, because I cannot lose to my sister.

Have a nice cup having a cup that I want to carry around with me, and is pretty helps because I'm more likely to remember it, I rotate between this one and one that actually shuts so it fits into my backpack (they fit the same amount of water so it follows the rules of the daily competition). On top of it being pretty, it's environmentally friendly which is a large bonus as well, and you can fill it up anywhere.

Add something to it in the summer nothing is better than some lemon in your water, but for some reason I don't ever feel like it in the winter. I have also discovered the Arbonne Essentials Energy Fizz Tabs that my friend sells, they are caffeine replacements, and are supposed to help you focus better, each tube comes with 10 tabs that you can break in half, and adding one to your water gives it a small amount of carbonation, a bit of flavour (the ones I have are pomegranate) and just spice up your water a little bit.
