About

My name is Mikayla! I'm a 22 year old University Graduate with a passion for all things beauty. I stumbled into the online beauty community a year ago and have been obsessed with youtube videos and blogs ever since. After watching hundreds of videos over the past year I figured it was about time I joined the community and posted my own thoughts in my own little space. I'm also recently graduated, unemployed and headed for college in September.

I really enjoy all things beauty, and I really like telling my friends what I think about products so writing them down just felt natural. To me, make up isn't something that you wear to make yourself look prettier, it's something you do on yourself for yourself. It has the power to give you strength to tackle a rough day, the courage to find your inner confidence and sparkle like every girl is meant too.

Other than beauty, I love fashion. Beauty and Fashion are the keys to my heart, along with a great deal. I'm all about a decent deal, and budget shopping is my favourite.

I can't wait to start this journey with the internet and all of you!

A product I've changed my mind about..

Tuesday, 4 November 2014

A couple months ago I posted about the Girls with Curls line released by Dippity-Do, read my original post here. After trying the products for a couple of weeks I really enjoyed the products I had from the line, however something has changed. I originally posted that my sister didn't enjoy the shampoo and conditioner but that I really liked the way it worked in my hair, making more then usual curls stay longer.

After using the shampoo and conditioner for over a month my hair developed some kind of dislike for the shampoo and conditioner combination- whenever I use the shampoo (only on my roots) and the conditioner (ends only) my hair turns into a ball of grease. I have long thick curly hair, and I'm incredibly diligent in making sure I wash everything out of my hair and yet by the time my hair has dried it looks like I haven't washed it in days I'm talking like 6 day hair after just an 8 hour dry time. I'm not sure if it is the product just reacting differently in my hair, if the water in Ontario is making it do weird things, or if my hair developed some kind of crazy intolerance to it, but it's full on gross.

It is only the shampoo and conditioner that does this to my hair, I use the gelee on my hair every time I wash it, and even mix in a small amount of Coconut Oil to keep it moisturized and it continues to work wonders with my curls that stuff is amazing.

I only write this update because I want to provide my honest opinions about anything and everything I try and update you if things change.

Girls with Curls Shampoo, Conditioner and Curl Gelee Review

Thursday, 11 September 2014

Girls with Curls is a recent product line launch by Dippity Do does anyone else think of the hair gel from their childhood when they hear that name? I have found this line at London Drugs, Walmart and Target for around $5 a product. The line has the curl shampoo, curl conditoner, curl gellee and curl cream. I have the shampoo/conditioner and the gellee. Overall, I am impressed with the line, I do find that it helps my curls look more defined and not as flat or shapeless and frizzy.

The Gellee is a really unique product as far as my curl care goes, it's not a gel but it's not a mouse, it's more like a whipped gel. The directions tell the user to apply the gellee to wet hair from roots to ends be warned: too much will make your roots a sticky mess apply cautiously and scrunch. I find this works best my flipping your hair over your head and applying like you would a mouse, scrunching as you go.

The combination of shampoo/conditioner/gellee really does help my curls in particular look more curly, my sister has found the shampoo/conditioner a little too drying for her hair, but on me I think it removes the rest amount of oils to really let my curls form and last.

I would rate this system:
8/10 for price, at just $5 a product, washing 2-3 times a week the bottles should last a fair amount of time, and the small amount of gellee required for my long thick hair is really doing the job, promising a long lasting use of the product.
8/10 for overall experience, I find it works and will repurchase when I run out.
