About

My name is Mikayla! I'm a 22 year old University Graduate with a passion for all things beauty. I stumbled into the online beauty community a year ago and have been obsessed with youtube videos and blogs ever since. After watching hundreds of videos over the past year I figured it was about time I joined the community and posted my own thoughts in my own little space. I'm also recently graduated, unemployed and headed for college in September.

I really enjoy all things beauty, and I really like telling my friends what I think about products so writing them down just felt natural. To me, make up isn't something that you wear to make yourself look prettier, it's something you do on yourself for yourself. It has the power to give you strength to tackle a rough day, the courage to find your inner confidence and sparkle like every girl is meant too.

Other than beauty, I love fashion. Beauty and Fashion are the keys to my heart, along with a great deal. I'm all about a decent deal, and budget shopping is my favourite.

I can't wait to start this journey with the internet and all of you!

May Ipsy Bag!

Thursday 15 May 2014

Today was my favourite day to get mail, every month around this time, a lovely pink bubble wrapped envelope finds its way into my mailbox. Sure I pay for it, but the goodies are my favourite, and I honestly look forward to seeing my new ipsy bag everyday.

For those who do not know, Ipsy is a monthly subscription service created by Michelle Phan. In Canada after shipping and the exchange rate is factored in costs around $17 a month, which some months is way worth it. The Glam Bag (what they are called) is a compact makeup bag filled with approximately 5 goodies. Each month follows a different theme, and the bags are always different. I've been subscribed for 13 months, and I love everything I have gotten from the bags. When you join, or sign up you fill out a questionnaire, asking about your favourite products, what you prefer, the skin type you have, if you like bolder or more neutral tones etc. This allows them to totally customize your bag, my best friend is also subscribed, and a few of our products are the same, but we have not gotten identical bags yet.

The bag itself: This months theme was "Fresh Picks" and it had a number of featured brands who send samples for the bags. The bag is super cute, and it is a little more flexible than some of the past bags I have gotten, which is great for filling it with your favourite goodies for purses and backpacks (and wherever else you can think of using them).

What's inside?
Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Spring Water It is branded for sensitive skin, and I know that it works. I'm really happy for a sample size that I can throw in my bag.

Hang Ten Classic Sport Natural Sunscreen UVA/UVB Protection SPF 50 I'm excited to use this product on my face as a sunscreen under my BB cream in the summer. It smells really good, and I am excited to have this in my bag ready to go in the summer!

Eva-Nye Therapy Session Hair Mask I have dry curly hair, enough said. This also smells really yummy and summery and yeah I'm excited to try it.

Pacifica Natural Beauty Eyeshadow Duo #1 Perfect golds for the summer, they are really light, so they are buildable, which for summer is great for a light wash of colour.

Too Faced Choclate Soleil Medium/Deep Bronzer I HAVE WANTED TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS FOREVER. I'm really glad it's a sample size so I can actually test it before I legitimately buy it- but I wanna for the smell alone, I didn't truly believe when everyone was hyping about how awesome it smells, but send me to chocolate heaven I love it. (I may have smelled it, and then made everyone in the house smell it too....)

I'm thinking of every month posting what's in my bag when I get it, and then reviewing each product as bonus posts throughout the following month.. Let me know in the comments if you think this is a good idea?

I've been trying to decide on a monthly beauty bag for a long time and Ipsy seems to be the best! I love that they send it in a reusable bag too, and the samples always seem to be a good size. Might have to opt into this. :] Thanks for the great review (very helpful)!

Ipsy sounds so cool!! I would love to see what you get every month, I love goodie bags :) Btw, Avene has been one of my holy grail skincare products for years and years, and I have gone through countless Thermal Spring Water ''bottles'', they work wonders! Wow everyone has been raving about the Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, I really want to get my hands on this! I would love to see a post where you are wearing it :) Is it matte?
Hugs,
Alexandra

It is matte (the chocolate soleil bronzer) I'm still testing it out, trying to find the best brush etc to apply it with, but so far I love it, the smell is intoxicating! Thank you so much for the input on the ipsy bags!

It is really worth it, sometimes you get a product that when you research it online is worth more than what you paid for the whole bag! The reusable bags are great, it feels better then having to throw out a box every month or whatever. I recommend it, I look forward to ipsy day every single month!
